BACKGROUND
COMPSAC is a major international forum for researchers, practitioners, managers, and policy makers interested in computer software and applications. It was first held in Chicago in 1977, and since then it has been one of the major forums for academia, industry, and government to discuss the state of art, new advances, and future trends in software technologies and practices. The technical program includes keynote addresses, research papers, industrial case studies, panel discussions and fast abstracts. It also includes a number of workshops on emerging important topics. COMPSAC 2005 is sponsored by IEEE Computer Society.
CONFERENCE VENUE
COMPSAC 2005 will be hosted by the Institute for Computing Systems Architecture at the University of Edinburgh and held in the William Robertson Building, a modern building close to the heart of the University (building 26 on the University Central Area map).
Edinburgh itself is Scotland's capital city, one of the greenest and architecturally most beautiful cities in Northern Europe. Over 2 million visitors come to Edinburgh each year, not just for the architecture, but for a City rich in social, cultural, learning and sporting facilities. Each year the City plays host to internationally renowned events such as the Edinburgh International Arts, Fringe, Film, TV and Science Festivals.
The University of Edinburgh was founded in 1583 and its historic buildings form an integral part of the city. Grouped in a series of precincts, these include the magnificent Old College, close to the Royal Mile.
REGISTRATION DESK
The Main Conference Registration Desk will be located in the entrance to the William Robertson Building and will open at 8.30 am on Tuesday 26th July. During Conference hours, the registration desk phone number will be 650 6666 (local calls) 0131 650 6666 (from within the UK but outwith Edinburgh), +44 131 650 6666 (from outwith the UK).
The registration pack that will supplied to delegates when they check in at the registration desk will include the vouchers required for lunches and for entry to the social events. The pack will also include a name badge that will be required for entry to the conference and workshop sessions.
Additional registration desks will also be open from 16.00 to 18.00 on Monday 25th July at the Novotel Hotel and Pollock Halls and at the Pre-conference Reception from 19.00 to allow delegates to collect their packs ahead of the Reception.
SESSION ARRANGEMENTS
The plenary sessions will be held in the main lecture theatre (G08) on the ground floor of the William Robertson Building. This theatre and adjacent lecture rooms will be used for the conference and workshop sessions. The main theatre and one of the lecture rooms have fixed data projectors. Portable data projectors will be available in the other rooms. Authors are expected to bring their own laptops or equivalent for use in their presentations.

† Old College is building 10 on the University Central Area map. It is between the Novotel and Pollock Halls, 5-10 minutes walk from Novotel and about 15 minutes walk from Pollock Halls.

There will be a limited number of specially priced additional tickets available for partners of registrants to attend the social events. These tickets must be ordered in advance (by 15 July) but paid for on arrival. Please send email to COMPSAC Administration with "Guest Tickets " as the subject line stating the event(s) for which you would like a guest ticket.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
ACCOMMODATION
The main accommodation centres for COMPSAC 2005 will be the Novotel Hotel in Lauriston Place and the University's Pollock Halls of Residence. Both are within easy reach of the conference venue (10-15 minutes walk). The accommodation booking agent for COMPSAC 2005 is the Edinburgh Convention Bureau.

Edinburgh is a popular tourist destination and the city has a large accommodation portfolio. Edinburgh and the surrounding Lothians provide a comprehensive range of accommodation, with around 25,000 beds in the area. Delegates have a choice of accommodation ranging from centrally located good quality budget hotels through to more luxurious boutique hotels, from friendly guesthouses to 5* International brands.
LOCAL INFORMATION
GETTING TO EDINBURGH
Edinburgh Airport, 8 miles (12 Km) west of the city centre, is served by major airlines to/from destinations in the UK and Europe. Glasgow International Airport, one hour from Edinburgh, has direct transatlantic flights.
Edinburgh has two railway stations: Waverley and Haymarket. Waverley is the main station with direct services across to/from London, across the UK and locally.
Edinburgh's main bus terminal is located just off Princes Street where there is information on the numerous services linking Edinburgh to other cities.
A network of roads and motorways connect Edinburgh with the rest of Scotland and the British Isles.
